11/22/2021 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom sophomore Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ) has been nothing short of spectacular for the men's basketball team in the early season and that further was displayed with his appearance on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll a second straight week.

Derry averaged 21.0 points on 56 percent shooting (15-of-27), 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists over two games.  He poured in a career-best 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting and matched his personal high with five 3-pointers Wednesday at Saint Thomas Aquinas.  Derry also had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists, two 3-pointers and a steal in Goldey-Beacom's 77-65 triumph Saturday over the District of Columbia.

It has been a more than impressive campaign for Derry, who also poured in a then career-high 24 points to go with five 3-pointers November 14 against Southern Connecticut State.  He is 33rd in the country with 13 three-pointers (first in the CACC), 48th with 3.25 three-pointers per game, 92nd with 34.75 minutes per contest, sixth in the league with 28 field goals and 20th with 5.5 rebounds per contest.

Goldey-Beacom's victory Saturday saw four players score in double figures and the team shoot 56 percent (31-of-56) from the floor, including 61 percent (17-of-28) in the second half.

GBC each the last four seasons has recorded at least 15 victories and has made the conference tournament that included two trips to the semifinals.  The Lightning, champions of the CACC South Division in 2018, this season were picked to end second in the division.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday continues its four-game homestand with a 6:00 pm contest against Bloomsburg.
