Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Drops Hard-Fought 3-0 Contest to Jefferson

The final score might not show it, but Goldey-Beacom in the first half played outstanding defense and battled to the end in a tough 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss to Jefferson at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning in the first half showed tremendous grit against a Rams squad that needed the win to get into the CACC Tournament.  Goldey-Beacom owned an 8-1 shot edge over the first 45 minutes, frustrating Jefferson to the point that the latter did not have a shot on frame during that span.

Freshman Patrick Short (Georgetown, DE) had four shots in the stanza for the Lightning.

But the Rams took over in the second half due in large part to Glenn Holmes, who assisted on all three tallies.  Michele Ganz in the 54th minute netted his fifth goal of the year, Gabe Paz in the 60th minute buried his third of the campaign and TJ Hibsman in the 75th recorded his fifth of the season.

Short closed with four shots and freshman Nate Barat (Wilmington, DE) ended with three saves for the Lightning (3-13, 1-9 CACC).

Hibsman amassed four shots off the bench and Holmes had three for Jefferson (6-8-2, 4-6-1), which will be the No. 8 seed for the conference tournament and will visit either Wilmington or Post in the quarterfinals.  Matteo Crescente totaled four saves.

Goldey-Beacom on Thursday ends its season against Chestnut Hill.  Game time in Lafayette Hill, PA is at 7:00 pm.
