Goldey-Beacom gave its all on the road Thursday night, falling 3-2 to Chestnut Hill College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup in Lafayette Hill, PA.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute with a goal from senior Dan McAllister (Drongan, Sweden) off a free kick from junior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil). It was McAllister's first goal of the season.
The Griffins found an answer in the 28th minute when Andrey McIntyre netted one off a penalty shot to tie the game, 1-1. McIntrye found his way in goal a second time before the half at the 41st minute on an assist from Ariel Barreto, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the 54th minute, senior Ethan Maguire (Sydney, Australia) tied the game once more off a penalty shot for his first goal of the season and a 2-2 tie.
Chestnut Hill responded with a goal in the 58th minute from Lucho Narcisi, assisted by Lucas de Sa off of a corner kick, to capture the final 3-2 victory.
Freshman Nate Barat (Wilmington, Del.) recorded three saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom throughout the season competed with a primarily young lineup with many having never competed in a game for the team prior to this year. A great deal of optimism exists going into 2022 with the returning players having a year under their belt.
This also marks the end of a great career for Maguire, who gave this squad a lot of heart, determination and grit. The second team All-CACC and second team CCA All-East Region pick from 2019 provided many memories, including the tying goal in the 2017 CACC final which GBC eventually won for its first trip to the NCAA Tournament.
