Neyshlian Roman Concepcion Breaks Single-Season Digs Record in Volleyball’s Loss to Wilmington

Senior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) again made the headlines in becoming Goldey-Beacom's single-season digs leader in her squad's 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss (12-25, 21-25, 15-25) at the Jones Center in Wilmington, DE.

Roman Concepcion tonight notched 22 digs in her first match since becoming the ninth player in team history to reach 1,000 career and the first to do so in two seasons.  She now stands at 531 on the season, breaking the single-season mark of 525 set by Tessa Snyder in 2004.

She now is at 1,052 career digs, moving her into seventh place in team history.  She entered the match tied for fourth in the country with 6.44 digs per set.

The Lightning in the second set struck for a 17-11 lead in its attempt to level the match.  Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) had five kills in that span with fellow junior Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) adding three.

But the Wildcats roared back with a 14-4 run to stunningly sway the set their way.  Heather Pedrick, Dorie Moore and Katie Bushong each had two kills in that span, helping their side end the set with a .227 hitting percentage.

Wilmington in the third set notched a 15-7 kills edge with a .256 percentage to close the match.  Angel Oliver simply took over in that time with six kills.

Freshman Rylen Carroll (Monroe, OH) notched 23 assists with Syrdahl and Boyce getting nine kills apiece for the Lightning (7-16, 3-10 CACC).  Boyce, tabbed third team All-CACC in 2018 and 2019, now is fourth in program history with 943 career kills.

Pedrick dished 18 assists, Bushong had 16, Jessica Connelly pounded nine kills and Mandy Behiels amassed 14 digs for the Wildcats (16-10, 10-2).

Goldey-Beacom this Saturday is on the road to battle Felician, starting at 1:00 pm in Rutherford, NJ.
