Goldey-Beacom held on after regulation until freshman Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.) drilled home a rebound in the 93rd minute, lifting her squad to a thrilling 2-1 victory Saturday against Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.
The Cougars pounced early, taking a 1-0 lead behind a fifth-minute goal from Sarah Costanza, assisted by Hannah Marino.
The Lightning continued to strike, attempting a handful of shots, unable to land one until the second half when junior Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, Del.) netted one in on a cross from freshman Alex Lowry (Wenonah, NJ) forcing overtime. Immediato now has two goals on the season.
In overtime, Ruggeri attempted a goal against goalie Jamie-Lee Bamford that was initially a near save but Ruggeri was able to capitalize off the rebound for the win, (2-1). Ruggeri now sits at three goals on the season.
Sophomore Noel Talbot (Westminster, MD) recorded three saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom travels to Staten Island, NY to face The College of Staten Island on Wednesday. Game time is set for 3 PM.
