Goldey-Beacom established its dominance early Wednesday in a 5-0 victory over The College of Staten Island in a non-conference matchup in Staten Island, NY.
Coming off her overtime goal Saturday against Caldwell, freshman Alyssa Ruggeri (Hockessin, Del.) netted the first goal of the game with an assist from senior Kiera Young (Aberdeen, MD) in the 22nd minute for a 1-0 lead. Ruggeri was playing her first game since being named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll, in addition to being picked September 7 the CACC Rookie of the Week.
The Lightning kept the lead with two goals from freshman Lexi Coppola (Turnersville, N.J.). She scored in the 30th minute on an assist by junior Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, Del.) for the 2-0 lead followed by a 40th-minute goal for the 3-0 lead heading into the half. It was Coppola's first goals of the season.
At the 84th minute, Ruggeri netted her fifth goal of the season for a 4-0 margin. The Lightning were not done striking however, adding an 85th-minute goal from senior Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, PA). It was her third goal of the season and sixth her career.
Freshman Nikki Cashin (Ridley, PA) recorded two saves for the Lightning. Freshman Jennifer Mejia (Sate College, Pa.) checked in 20 minutes and recorded a save.
Goldey-Beacom is back to CACC play on Saturday as it faces Nyack College starting at 1 PM.
