Goldey-Beacom fought until the end, falling 4-2 on Friday to Dominican (NY) College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference matchup on Orangeburg, NY.
The Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute after goal from Ewan Gray netted in off a pass from the right side assisted by Armando Morales. In the 39th minute, the Chargers found another opportunity from Marouf Barry who headed a forward pass from the lower right corner from Nicholas Diguglielmo for the 2-0 first-half lead.
The Lightning were unable to find a response until later in the second half after the Chargers added two more goals in the 46th minute and 63rd minute from Guilherme Pirana on a pass from the right side by Barry and an unassisted goal by Eric Affi off a free kick, 4-0.
In the 64th minute junior Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) landed a shot 30 yards out, unassisted, to get the Lightning on the board, 4-1. Coimbra's second goal of the season and tenth career goal.
The Lightning found a way in net once more in the 81st minute by senior Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia) off an unassisted free kick goal to round off play in the 4-3 defeat. Varela records his third goal of the season and tenth career.
Freshman Zander Omans (Camden, Del.) recorded eight saves for the Lightning.
Goldey-Beacom hosts the College of Staten Island in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday starting at 3:30 PM.
