Women’s Soccer Opens 2019 Campaign with Scoreless Draw vs. Saint Anselm

Goldey-Beacom staved off a charge from Saint Anselm and began the 2019 season with a 0-0 draw at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning exhibited solid defense in the opening half, thwarting six corner kicks from the Hawks with freshman goalkeeper Noel Talbot (Marriottsville, MD) not needed to make a save.

The second half was the period Goldey-Beacom (0-0-1) generated more offense.  Its best chance came in the 68th minute when senior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) was called upon for a penalty kick, but her attempt was denied by goalkeeper Payton Wildrick.

Overtime saw little offense with the Hawks (0-0-1) getting three shots, but none found the back of the net as the Lightning recorded their first season-opening tie in program history.

Fannon closed with three shots and freshman Hanna Clarke (Earleville, MD) recorded two for the Lightning.  Talbot did not face a shot on cage in her collegiate debut.

Caly Farina attempted three shots and Wildrick made three saves for Saint Anselm, which closed with an 11-5 shots edge.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday to host fifth-ranked Bloomsburg, starting at 3:00 pm.
