Women’s Soccer Plays to 3-3 Draw at Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom played tough against the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference champion, but in the end had to settle for a 3-3 tie at Caldwell in Caldwell, NJ.

Goldey-Beacom got on the board in the 41st minute when junior Ali Henriquez (Jersey City, NJ) found the back of the net off a feed from sophomore Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) for her first goal of the season and third career.  But Caldwell got it back with 31 seconds to go in the first half with Yudemis Sanchez scoring off a feed from Sarah Costanza.

GBC early in the second half got the ball in Caldwell's half of the field thanks to a turnover.  Emily Woolvin (Birmingham, England) had it on the left side and hit the right post with a shot, but fellow junior Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway) was there on the rebound to score in the 53rd minute for her second goal of the season and fifth career.

Junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) was on the spot in the 58th minute to give the Lightning a 3-1 lead.  She took the ball just outside the six-yard box off a touch from Kristoffersen and put it inside the left post.

The Cougars did not give up and made it a one-goal deficit in the 65th minute.  Meghan Grundhauser put a cross in the box that Katie Iannuzzi found the back of the net with on a perfect header, making it 3-2.

Caldwell then unbelievably tied it in the 80th minute when Jordan Madrid fired a 30-yard shot that bounced in and out of the net very quickly, but still counted for a 3-3 game.

The Lightning held a 4-1 edge in shots in the extra periods, but none went home and the teams played to a draw for the second straight time in Essex County.

Immediato had four shots and freshman Noel Talbot (Marriottsville, MD) made seven saves for the Lightning (0-2-2, 0-0-1 CACC).

Grundhauser finished with eight shots and Jamie-Lee Bamford amassed one save for the Cougars (1-2-1, 0-0-1).

Goldey-Beacom is back in action next Thursday against Chestnut Hill, beginning at 3:00 pm at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field.  Please note the date change from the original schedule.
