Volleyball Handed a Crushing 3-2 Loss at Jefferson in CACC Opener

Goldey-Beacom looked like it would take a step in the right direction as it opened play in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference, but ended with a tough 3-2 loss (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 22-25, 11-15) at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

After dropping a tight first set, Goldey-Beacom bounced back in a huge way by recording a 14-6 kills advantage and limiting Jefferson to just a .026 hitting percentage in the second.  Sophomore Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) amassed five kills in the set with junior Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) and sophomore Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) adding four apiece.

The third set again featured the Lightning getting it done on both offense and defense.  The squad pounded 12 kills in the frame over 39 swings and held the Rams to just a .139 percentage.  Boyce again was on point with six kills in the stanza.

Jefferson in the fourth set leveled the match despite Przywara getting five kills and Boyce adding four.

The Lightning (3-6, 0-1 CACC) in the fifth set put up a fight, rallying from a 4-1 deficit for a 4-4 tie, a 7-4 deficit for an 8-8 tie and overcoming two match points.  But seven kills in the set by the Rams ultimately was the difference and holding the visitors to a .000 percentage.

Przywara closed with 22 kills and 12 digs, Boyce had 18 and 13, sophomore Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) notched 42 assists and 15 digs, Syrdahl pounded 10 kills and junior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) added 24 digs.

Abigail Kress had 18 kills, Lauren Kloos notched 11 and 19 digs, Alexis Leddy recorded 31 digs with Molly Hand adding 38 assists along with 10 digs for the Rams (4-2, 1-0).

Goldey-Beacom next Tuesday plays its home opener against Wilmington (DE), starting at 7:00 pm.
