Volleyball Again Gains a Split at Kutztown Classic



Goldey-Beacom began its final day at the Kutztown Classic with a convincing 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-16, 25-21) over Saint Michael's before a crushing 3-2 loss (25-20, 25-16, 17-25, 19-25, 12-15) to Kutztown.
 
Against Saint Michael's, Goldey-Beacom was in control from the jump and continued with a 42-20 overall kills advantage.  The Lightning in the third set notched a stunning 21 kills with just four errors over 35 swings for an impressive .486 hitting percentage.
 
Junior Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) had 15 kills and 14 digs, Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) recorded 11 and eight, fellow sophomore Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) dished 38 assists and junior Neyshlian Roman Concepcion (Toa Baja, PR) totaled 13 digs for the Lightning.
 
London Starley ended with 16 assists and nine digs for the Purple Knights (1-6).
 
Versus Kutztown, GBC in the first set limited the home side to just a .023 percentage and forced it into 10 attack errors.  Przywara had five kills in the set, Spendlove recorded six assists and Roman Concepcion added nine digs.
 
The Lightning made it two sets to none with sophomore Julia Syrdahl (Basking Ridge, NJ) recording four kills and the Golden Bears only managing a .027 percentage.
 
But Kutztown rallied for the victory, despite just a .067 percentage in the final set and the fact Goldey-Beacom held a 9-5 kills edge.
 
Przywara ended with 20 kills and 12 digs, Boyce amassed 13 and 17, Syrdahl notched 10 kills, Spendlove totaled a career-best 43 assists and Roman Concepcion added 27 digs for the Lightning (3-5).
 
Holly Owen pounded 22 kills, Britney Hewitt recorded 14 and Erin Patterson added 11 for the Golden Bears (6-2).
 
Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday opens Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Jefferson, beginning at 6:00 pm in Philadelphia.
