Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls Twice to Pace

Goldey-Beacom falls twice to Pace, 8-4 and 5-0, in an out of conference match up in Pleasantville, NY.

In game one, Goldey-Beacom came out strong in the top of the first inning when Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.) hit a solo home run to left field. The Lightning kept it rolling in the top of the fourth inning when Connor Megginson (Harbeson, Del.) hit a two-run homer to left field.

Pace, despite being down 3-0 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, continued to battle. Dean DePreta hit an RBI single to left field to close the gap to two.

The Lightning kept it rolling in the top of the fifth inning when Mason Maxwell (Newfield, N.J.) scored off a wild pitch. Goldey-Beacom had a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Pace gained momentum and never looked back. Brian Bohlander hit a sacrifice fly through the left side which allowed for DePreta to score.

Pace went on to score six more runs to win game one 8-4.

Thomas Ippolito (4-1) pitched all nine innings with nine strikeouts and only allowed four runs.

Hill went 2-for-4 with one run, Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, Del.), Megginson and Maxwell all went 1-for-4 with one run each for the Lightning in game one.

In game two, Pace took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Pia scored off a wild pitch. Pace kept things rolling in the bottom of the second inning when three people scored off an error by the second baseman. Pace went on to score one more run to win game two 5-0.

Alex Busby (2-5) pitched all seven innings with two strikeouts and did not allow any runs.

Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama) and Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, N.J.) both went 1-for-3 and Cole Collins (Laurel, Del.) went 1-for-1 in game two for the Lightning.

Abdul recorded a hit in each contest and now has a 10-game hitting streak, one short of his career high from earlier this season.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill at 12pm in Hockessin, DE.
