Goldey-Beacom falls twice, 6-0 and 4-2, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Hockessin, DE.
In game one, Chestnut Hill took a 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning when John Contoudis reached off a fielding error by the third baseman which allowed for Ameir Uzzell to score.
In the bottom of the first inning, Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, N.J.) hit a single up the middle but Chestnut Hill shut the Lightning down the rest of the inning.
The Griffins kept it rolling in the top of the fourth inning when Franklin Ramirez hit an RBI single up the middle. Luke LeBeau followed with an RBI single to left field to put Chestnut Hill up 3-0.
Chestnut Hill went on to score three more runs to win game one 6-0.
Billy Bethtel (7-3) pitched all nine innings with three strikeouts and did not allow any runs for Chestnut Hill.
Wauseon, OH senior Jake Trejo (4-4) pitched six innings with three strikeouts for Goldey-Beacom.
Zach Roseman (Wilmington, Del.) and Connor Megginson (Harbeson, Del.) both went 1-for-3 in game one for the Lightning.
In game two, Chestnut Hill went up early in the top of the first inning when Contoudis hit an RBI single to left field. Contoudis then stole second and advanced to third off a throwing error by the catcher which allowed for Sam Barletta to score. Gilham hit a sacrifice fly to bring Contoudis home to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning.
Goldey-Beacom fought back in the bottom of the first inning when Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, Del.) scored off of a wild pitch. Closing the gap to two, the Lightning kept their momentum going in the bottom of the fourth inning when Cole Collins (Laurel, Del.) hit an RBI single to left-center field.
Chestnut Hill led Goldey-Beacom 3-2 going into the top of the fifth inning. Contoudis hit and RBI sacrifice fly to give the Griffins a 4-2 lead.
Chestnut Hill shut down GBC in the last three innings to win game two 4-2.
Mason Maxwell (Newfield, N.J.) and Abdul went 1-for-3, Gills went 1-for-3 with two runs and Collins went 2-for-3 in game two.
Abdul is on a 12-game hitting streak which ties the school record that was set in 2017 by junior Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.).
Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Thursday for a doubleheader against Chestnut Hill at 3:30 pm in Norristown, PA.
