Baseball Takes Two From Post

Goldey-Beacom got a much-needed Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference sweep in recording victories of 5-3 and 6-2 over Post at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

The Eagles in game one opened things with a 3-0 lead after 3 1/2 innings.  Matt Goehrig homered in the second inning, Travious Ford lined an RBI double in the third and Nicholas Gastin added a run-scoring single in the fourth.

But the Lightning began to chip away, getting two runs in the fourth for a 3-2 deficit.  Senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) scored on a wild pitch and junior Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE) added an RBI single.

GBC then took the lead for good in the sixth with three runs for the final.  Sophomore Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE) tied it with an RBI triple, freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) put the Lightning ahead with a run-scoring double and Thomas crossed home on a wild pitch.

Wauseon, OH senior Jake Trejo (4-3) again pitched great, recording a career-best 11 strikeouts and allowing just three runs over nine innings.  Trejo has been victorious in four of his last six appearances and bested his 10 strikeouts from March 23 at Bloomfield.

Goehrig and Miguel De Los Santos had two hits apiece for the Eagles.

Goldey-Beacom (13-27, 12-14 CACC) in game two opened a 3-0 lead after three innings.  Solis lined an RBI single in the first, Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) had a run-scoring single in the second and fellow junior Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) recorded an RBI single in the third.

Post (16-19, 13-11) made things interesting in the fifth when Isaias Guzman roped a two-run double for a 3-2 contest.

But the Lightning got three huge insurance runs in the sixth for the final.  Abdul looped an RBI single in the sixth and Gillis recorded a two-run single later in the frame.

Derwood, MD sophomore Jake Heskett (2-2) pitched solidly over five innings, yielding just two runs and one hit with two strikeouts.  Freshman James Balogh (Cresco, PA) got Tyler Melko to strikeout for his first save of the year.

Hill and Gillis closed with two hits apiece for the Lightning.  Abdul, who had an 11-game hitting streak earlier this season, notched a hit in each contest and now has an eight-game hitting streak.

Goldey-Beacom on Friday steps out of league play to visit Pace for a noon doubleheader in Pleasantville, NY.
