Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Drops a Pair to Caldwell

Goldey-Beacom could not hold off a late lead in game one and could not quite rally from an early deficit in game two for a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses, 4-3 and 6-4, at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

GBC in the third inning brought game one to a 1-1 tie when junior Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama) singled through the left side to plate senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ).  It took a 2-1 lead in the fifth when an error on a steal attempt allowed sophomore Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE) to score from third.

Abdul's RBI groundout in the sixth plated freshman Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) for what looked to be a huge insurance run, making it 4-3.

But the Cougars hastily scored three times in the seventh for a 4-3 margin.  A throwing error allowed two runs to score for the tie and Luis Rullan lined an RBI single to center field, scoring Dhillon Barbetti, for the lead.

Abdul had three hits with Solis continuing his solid play by getting two.

Rullan rapped three hits for the Cougars with Barbetti and Kyle Richards getting two apiece.  Jerry Gamone (1-4) allowed just three runs – one earned – and seven hits over six innings before Anthony Frascati struck out six over three scoreless frames for his first save of the year.

Caldwell (7-13, 5-7 CACC) in the first inning of game one exploded for five runs.  Anthony Parente, Tavis Bruson and Jack Zosulis each had RBI before Jalen March ripped a two-run double.

Solis lined an RBI single in the last of the frame for a 5-1 deficit.  GBC (4-22, 3-9) then got two runs in the third with Abdul recording an RBI grounder and junior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) crossing home on a balk for a 5-3 margin.

Zosulis lined an RBI single in the sixth for a 6-3 contest and Lightning freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the final.

Solis ended with two hits and now has reached base in 13 straight contests.  Hill also finished with two hits.

Parente and March each had two hits for the Cougars.  Frank Lehmann (2-1) threw the final 3 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just a run and two hits with a strikeout.

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday hosts 22nd-ranked Wilmington (DE) for a noon doubleheader at Doyle Field.
