Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Handed a Pair of Losses by Felician

Goldey-Beacom could not handle the red-hot bats from Felician and was dealt a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference losses, 11-3 and 11-2, at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Mike Martinez got Felician rolling in the first inning of game one, clubbing a three-run homer.  Junior Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) got GBC back in it during the last of the fourth on a two-run double for a 3-2 game.

But the Golden Falcons got six runs in the fifth for a 9-2 margin.  Sean Downey lined a two-run double to make it 7-2 and Carlos Bermudez ended the scoring with a two-run single.

Freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) launched a solo homer in the eighth for the Lightning as part of his two hits.  Collins, junior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) and freshman Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) also had two hits.

Alex Schwartz (3-1) struck out seven over seven innings for Felician, yielding two runs and nine hits.  Martinez had a game with three hits and four RBI.

Things for Goldey-Beacom (4-20, 3-7 CACC) in game two looked promising when Hill clubbed a leadoff homer in the last of the first for a 1-0 lead.  It was his second home run of the season and fifth career.

After Felician got two in the second, it tacked on five more in the fourth for a 7-1 lead.  Jordan Folgers and Jason Aponte each had RBI singles in the frame and Danny Healey Jr. drew a bases-loaded walk.

Martinez continued his solid day in the sixth with an RBI double and Folgers added a two-run single later in the inning for the final.

Lightning junior Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) notched two hits to extend his career-best hitting streak to seven games.  Hill also had two hits in the nightcap.

Folgers had two hits and three RBI with Aponte also getting two hits.  Will Kazura (2-1) allowed just two runs and six hits over six innings for Felician (14-14, 8-2).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday is back at Doyle Field to battle Caldwell in a noon doubleheader.
