Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls Twice to Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom was handed a 6-3 loss against Jefferson in game one and then a tough 4-2, eight-inning setback in game two during Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play in Hockessin, DE.

Jefferson in game one grabbed control with four runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-1 lead.  Efrain Santiago lined a two-out single to left, Robert Wood drew a bases-loaded walk and Timothy Brodhad was hit by a pitch to drive in another run.

Sicklerville, NJ freshman Anthony DiMartino (0-4) was perfect through the first three innings for the Lightning and pitched great, striking out four and allowing six runs – five earned – and five hits over 6 2/3 frames.  Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) and fellow junior Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama) recorded two hits apiece.

Daniel Sabath (2-1) struck out seven over six innings before Brandon Smith pitched the ninth for the save.

The Lightning in game two forged a 2-2 tie in the sixth.  Solis was hit by a hit pitch, junior Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE) singled him to third and scored on a squeeze bunt from sophomore Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE).

The eighth inning meant extras again for the Lightning (4-16, 3-3 CACC), who allowed two runs in the top of the frame.  Four walks were issued in the frame that included a bases-loaded pass to Arturo Figueroa and Wood followed by getting hit by a pitch for the final score.

Sophomore Trevor Jump (Wilmington, DE) struck out seven in a no-decision, allowing two runs and eight hits over seven innings for Goldey-Beacom.  Freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) ended with three hits.

Matt Bukavich got the victory in relief, firing 2 2/3 scoreless frames with two strikeouts.  Wood ended with two hits for the Rams (6-14, 4-2).

Goldey-Beacom is right back at it Monday for a doubleheader at Felician, beginning at 1:00 pm in Lyndhurst, NJ.
