Game Recap: Baseball |

Zach Roseman’s School-Record Five Hits Helps Baseball Gain Split at Jefferson

Junior Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) collected a school-record five hits in game two, helping propel Goldey-Beacom to an 18-10 victory over Jefferson after opening the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader with an 8-2 setback in Philadelphia, PA.

Roseman ended with two doubles and three singles to break the team mark of four hits accomplished by numerous players.  The 18 runs and 20 hits for Goldey-Beacom each are one off team records, both accomplished against Caldwell on March 26, 2018.

Junior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) in game two blasted a leadoff homer before the Lightning then got seven runs in the top of the second for a 9-1 lead.  Hill and Roseman had RBI singles sandwiched around run-scoring doubles from freshman Maurice Parson (Philadelphia, PA) and senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ).

If that was not enough, the Lightning in the fourth inning put up another seven spot for a 16-3 lead.  Freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) launched a solo homer, Roseman had an infield RBI single, freshman Marshall Awtry (Hockessin, DE) drew a bases-loaded walk and Hill ripped a two-run double.

Sophomore Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, DE) lined an RBI double in the sixth and Awtry added a solo homer in the sixth for an 18-3 margin.  The Rams got six runs back in the sixth, aided by Efrain Santiago's three-run double, for an 18-9 contest.

Hill ended with three hits and four RBI with Parson and Gillis also getting three hits.  Junior starter Brandon Ferrie (Royersford, PA) allowed three runs and six hits over three innings for the Lightning (2-14, 1-1 CACC) before Wauseon, OH senior Jake Trejo (1-2) struck out one and permitted just one hit over an inning.

Santiago went 2-for-2 with four RBI and Timothy Brodhag also collected two hits for Jefferson (3-13, 1-1).

Goldey-Beacom in game one permitted four runs in the last of the fourth inning and found itself in a 6-0 hole.  Santiago scored on an error, Brodhag lined a two-run double and Matt McGee added an RBI single.

Down 8-0, the Lightning plated two runs in the top of the eighth inning.  Parson ripped an RBI triple and Abdul followed with a run-scoring single.

Abdul and Hill closed with two hits apiece for the Lightning.

Patrick Hohlfield (1-2) struck out 15 over eight innings for the Rams, allowing just two runs, seven hits and one walk.  Broadhag had two hits and three RBI.

Under the new CACC scheduling format, two teams in the same division are scheduled to meet four times in the same week.  Goldey-Beacom on Friday hosts Jefferson at noon at Doyle Field in Hockessin.
