Baseball Falls to No. 10 West Chester 3-1

Goldey-Beacom fell to 10th-ranked West Chester, 3-1, in Newark, Delaware.

The Lightning and Rams battled back and forth both refusing to give up a run. The game remained neutral until the bottom of the sixth inning when Jared Melone hit a single to right field for a single RBI to put West Chester up 1-0.

Goldey-Beacom equalized the game in the top of the eighth inning when senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, N.J.) hit a single to left field and Trent Hearn (Bethel, Del.) scored off an error by the left field. The Lightning and Rams now tied going into the bottom of the eighth inning.

West Chester didn't quit after the Lightning tied the game. Joey Coyle stepped up to bat and ripped one to the right field for a home run and an RBI to put the Rams up 3-1 to win the game.

Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama), Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, Del.), Connor Megginson (Harbeson, Del.), Abdul, and Hearn all had a hit for Goldey-Beacom.

Luke Cantwell went 2-for-3 and Coyle went 4-for-2 with two runs and one RBI for West Chester.

Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, N.J.) (0-1) pitched all eight innings with seven strike outs and allowed three runs for the Lightning.

Scott McKenna (2-0) pitched two innings with three strike outs and did not allow any runs for West Chester.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Wednesday to kick off their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a doubleheader against Jefferson at noon in Philadelphia, PA.
