Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Falls to Delaware and No. 10 West Chester

Goldey-Beacom went against some of the best today in Division I Delaware and perennial Division II power West Chester, but fell to both in Newark, DE.

GBC opened with a 4-0 loss to Delaware before a 6-3 setback to 10th-ranked West Chester.

The Delaware contest saw GBC not take advantage of two strong pitching performances.  Senior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH) was solid over six innings, allowing just four runs – three earned – and seven hits over six innings.  Junior Brandon Ferrie (Royersford, PA) also gave the Lightning a chance, striking out three and yielding just one hit over two frames.

Junior Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) closed with two hits for Goldey-Beacom.

Chris Ludman went all the way for the Blue Hens in tossing a six-hit shutout, striking out six over nine innings with one walk and facing just six batters above the minimum.  Kevin Buglio recorded a pair of run-scoring doubles and Jack Goan also had two hits for Delaware (3-14).

Goldey-Beacom in its game with West Chester opened the scoring in the last of the second.  Junior Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) lined a leadoff single and scored when freshman Anthony DiMartino (Sicklerville, NJ) crushed an RBI double to right-center field.

The Golden Rams plated the next six runs for a 6-1 lead, keyed by a three-run sixth inning.  Justin Horn lifted a sacrifice fly, Joey Coyle lined an RBI single and Joe Zirolli added a run-scoring single.

The Lightning (1-12) got two runs back in the last of the sixth for a 6-3 deficit.  Collins lined a two-out double, took third on a wild pitch and DiMartino walked.  Freshman Connor Megginson (Harbeson, DE) followed with a run-scoring single for his first collegiate RBI and sophomore Trent Hearn (Bethel, DE) then lined an RBI single.

DiMartino ended 3-for-3 with Collins and Hill getting two hits apiece.  Senior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) struck out seven over five innings, but yielded three runs and four hits.

Jon Fisher struck out three over five innings for West Chester (8-2), allowing one run and four hits.  Evan Snyder fired a perfect ninth inning for the save, striking out two.

Goldey-Beacom and West Chester play again Sunday in Newark, beginning at 3:00 pm.
