Baseball Downed by Division I Delaware



Goldey-Beacom's first foray against a Division I opponent was a rough one, resulting in a 15-1 loss at Delaware in Newark.
 
The Blue Hens struck three times in the last of the first inning to open the scoring, keyed by Jordan Hutchins' two-run double.  The home side got five more in the second for an 8-0 margin, aided by Jack Goan's two-RBI single to left field.
 
Joseph Carpenter launched a solo home run in the third and Goan added an RBI groundout in the fourth for a 10-0 contest.
 
The Lightning (1-10) got one run back in the top of the ninth for the final.  Senior Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) was hit by a pitch, freshman pinch-runner Mason Maxwell (Newfield, NJ) took second on a single from Tevin Thomas (Dover, DE), reached third on a flyout from fellow junior Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) and scored on an error.
 
Junior Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) went 3-for-3 for the Lightning, marking the fourth time in his career he has reached three hits.
 
Hutchins had three hits and four RBI with Goan amassing two hits and three RBI for the Blue Hens (2-14).  Brandon Walter struck out 12 over eight innings, allowing just four hits and one walk.
 
Goldey-Beacom is in action Saturday against Delaware at 11:00 am and West Chester at 3:00 pm.  The contest vs. Delaware will broadcasted by 302 Sports.
