Baseball is Dealt a Pair of Losses to Tusculum



Goldey-Beacom opened its four-game series against Tusculum with a doubleheader in Greeneville, TN. The Lightning were dealt a 10-5 and 19-0 loss to Tusculum in the first two games.

Tusculum took the early lead in the bottom of the first inning scoring two runs. Daulton Martin scored off a single through the right side by Nate Montgomery. Bryson Ford scored on an RBI ground out to second base.

The Lightning struck back in the top of the second with Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.), Jeff Gillis (Hockessin, Del.), Ivan Solis (La Chorrera, Panama) and Maurice Parson (New Castle, Del.) all being walked. Hill scored off Parson's walk and the bases remained loaded. Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, N.J.) hit a single up the middle which brought in two runs and Parson scored unearned by an error on the first baseman. Goldey-Beacom goes ahead 4-2.

Both teams scored a run in the third inning making it a 5-3 game in the Lightning's favor. Tusculum fought back scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Ford doubled to left center field which brought in Sam Urban with an earned run and Martin and Jarel McDade both scored unearned runs. Trey Hinton hit a double to left field which brought in Montgomery with an unearned run to put the Pioneers up 10-5 to win the game.

Andrew Willis (1-2) got the win for Tusculum. He pitched four innings and only allowed two hits and had eight strikeouts.

Tusculum took an early lead in game two going up by five in the first two innings. The Pioneers never looked back scoring four runs in the fifth inning and added another 10 runs in the sixth inning. Tusculum scored 19 runs and held the Lightning to zero to win game two.

Zach Sanders (2-1) got the win for Tusculum. He pitched six innings with eight strikeouts and only allowing two hits.

Goldey-Beacom is back in action Monday for a doubleheader at noon to close its four-game series against Tusculum in Greeneville, TN.
