Baseball Splits Its Doubleheader Against Limestone in Season Opener

Goldey-Beacom Baseball splits their double header against Limestone in their season opener in Gaffney, SC. Limestone took game one 5-4 and the Lightning took game two 5-0.

For the majority of the first game Limestone held the lead until the top of the seventh inning when the Lightning brought in three runs. Junior Cole Collins (Laurel, Del.) got things started for Goldey-Beacom with a single through the left side. Collins advanced to second base on a pass ball and scored off a double to left field from Calvin Clark (Millville, N.J.). Marquise Wood (Philadelphia, Pa.) came into the game to pinch run for Clark.

Zach Roseman (Wilmington, Del.) advanced to second base and Wood advanced to third base off a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Trent Hearn (Bethel, Del.). Freshman Mason Maxwell (Newfield, N.J.) was hit by a pitch to advance to first base. Freshman Maurice Parson (New Castle, Del.) crushes a double to right center bringing in Roseman and Wood to give the Lightning three runs. Goldey-Beacom leads at after the top of the seventh 4-3.

In the bottom of the seventh inning the Lightning bring in Jake Trejo (Wauseon, Ohio) to pitch for Jake Heskett (Derwood, Md.). With a runner on first a second, Benjamin Huber reached on a fielding error by the Lightning short stop which brought in a run for Limestone to tie the game. With a runner on first and third, Cornell was up to bat for Limestone. Alex Cornell hits a single down the left line to bring in Chase Allen for a walk off win for Limestone 5-4.

Eric Mullinax (10) gets the win for Limestone with five strike outs and allowing three runs.

Goldey-Beacom came out strong in game two gaining the lead in the fifth inning and never looking back.

Wood scored in the top of the fifth to put the Lightning up 1-0. Continuing in the top of the seventh inning Tevin Thomas (Dover, Del.) batted in Parson. Then the Lightning added three more runs by Justin Hill (Seaford, Del.), Thomas, and Wood. Goldey-Beacom got three outs in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-0.

Sophomore Trevor Jump (Wilmington, Del.) (1-0) got the win for the Lightning only allowing three hits and had six strike outs.

The Lightning are back in action on Saturday for a double header vs. Limestone starting at 12pm.
