Goldey-Beacom freshman guard Nazim Derry (Atlantic City, NJ), who has made himself a presence in just a short time with the men's basketball team, was picked the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week.
Derry averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.5 points over two games with six 3-pointers. He had 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, eight rebounds, five steals and three 3-pointers Wednesday against the District of Columbia. Derry also added 13 points, three 3-pointers, three steals and two rebounds Saturday at Chestnut Hill.
An enthralling player to watch and a solid competitor, Derry is 30th in the country with 20 steals, 49th with 2.22 steals per game, 92nd with 302.5 minutes, 26th in the league with 12.7 points per contest, sixth with 30 assists and 11th with 19 three-pointers.
Goldey-Beacom (4-5, 1-0 CACC) is on a four-game winning streak after opening against many of the East Region's elite squads that included regionally ranked Bridgeport and Saint Thomas Aquinas. The Lightning during this stretch have held their opponents to 39 percent shooting (91-of-236) and have forced them into 20.0 turnovers per contest.
Goldey-Beacom returns home Saturday against Southern New Hampshire, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Jones Center in Wilmington.
