Women’s Basketball Selected to Close Fourth in the CACC South

Round19-5net

Women's Basketball | 10/29/2019 12:00:00 AM

Goldey-Beacom's women's basketball unit was picked to end fourth in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference's South Division based on a vote of the league's coaches.

One of the most potent weapons in the area is back with the return of senior guard Amanda McGrogan (Mount Laurel, NJ).  A consummate pro who is a great teammate and a solid leader, McGrogan last season was picked second team All-CACC and a member of the league's All-Tournament Team.

A gifted student-athlete, McGrogan last season was 52nd in the country as well as first in the league with 17.8 points per game, 24th in the nation with 142 free throws (second-best mark in team history), 81st with 3.9 assists per contest, 85th with 113 assists (sixth-best total in team history) and 90th with a 1.49 assist-to-turnover ratio.

A two-time member of the CACC Academic Honor Roll, McGrogan enters the season 11th in school history with 928 career points, tied for fifth with 243 assists, 10th with 80 three-pointers and 10th with 222 free throws.

Sophomore Sarah Round (Northampton, England) was a tremendous addition to the Lightning a season ago at guard and once again should be a key for the squad.  Of the league's best shooters and the only returnee to start all 30 contests last season, Round ended the campaign 45th in the country with 74 three-pointers, 54th with 2.47 three-pointers per game, 15th in the CACC with 130 field goals, 21st with a .330 three-point percentage and 25th with 12.3 points per contest.

Sophomore forward Alexis Harrison (Millville, NJ) returns and hopes she once again can be a key player in the post.  A strong competitor who could have a bigger role on both sides of the ball, Harrison enters the season first in team history with a .529 field goal percentage and 10th with 42 blocks.

Goldey-Beacom opens its season November 8 against Le Moyne in a neutral-site contest in Philadelphia.
