Goldey-Beacom defeats Bloomfield 5-2 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up in Wilmington, DE.
Goldey-Beacom and Bloomfield battled back and forth in the first half but the Lightning struck first. In the 41st minute, Nicholas Ladeira (Johannesburg, South Africa) placed the ball in the back of the net off a deflection to put Goldey-Beacom up 1-0 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Goldey-Beacom extended their lead to 2-0 in the 65th minute when sophomore Josh Moody (Townsend, DE.) played a through ball to sophomore Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) who finished the ball in the back of the net.
The Lightning didn't stop their making it 3-0 in the 79th minute when Alejandro Varela (Cali, Colombia) played a pass from the right side to senior Levi Maruca (Downingtown, PA.) who struck the ball in the lower right corner.
Bloomfield continued to battle and in the 81st minute, Goldey-Beacom fouled them in the box for a penalty kick. Warwick Stirling stepped up to take the kick and placed it in the back of the net making it a 3-1 game.
Goldey-Beacom quickly responded in the 82nd minute when Coimbra took a free kick rocketing it in the lower left corner. Moody added another goal for the Lightning in the 85th minute when Comibra played him a short pass from the right side to tap into the back of the net. Goldey-Beacom now up 5-1.
With the end of the second half nearing, Bloomfield added another goal in the 88th minute when Issac Levi Rodrigues played a ball through the defenders to Quincy Baal who placed the ball in the back of the net. Goldey-Beacom went on to win 5-2.
Coimbra had four shots and Jamie McAvoy (Ayr, Scotland) had three shots for Goldey-Beacom. Troy Fitzgerald (Bear, DE.) had five saves for the Lightning.
Horacho Turner had four shots, Jeremy Mpouma and Quincy Baal both had three shots each for Bloomfield.
Goldey-Beacom is back in action on Wednesday vs. Wilmington (DE) at 3:30pm in Newark, DE.
