Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Dealt 3-1 Loss at Jefferson

In what always is an intriguing matchup featuring two of the area's best teams, Goldey-Beacom held its own in a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference loss at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Down 1-0, Goldey-Beacom got the equalizer in the 10th minute.  Sophomore Eduardo Coimbra (Curitiba, Brazil) had the ball on the left side and fed a pass to junior Sergi Varona (Barcelona, Spain), who put a shot inside the right post for his fifth goal of the season.

Varona entered the game as a reigning member of the CACC Weekly Honor Roll.

However, the Rams got their one-goal lead back in the 24th minute.  Gus Ward had his shot blocked, but Hunter Dyson was there for the rebound and pounced on it.

Even with all the early scoring, defense took over and it remained a one-goal game through most of the second half.  However, that was until Theophilus Ijeboi chipped one home in the 88th minute for the final.

Varona ended with three shots and junior Cole Lewis (Middletown, DE) amassed four saves for the Lightning (10-5, 7-2 CACC), who still have won eight of their last 10 contests.

Ward, who scored the first goal, had four shots and Stephen Paul made five saves for the Rams (5-7-1, 5-3).  It was Jefferson's fifth victory in its last six outings.

With Chestnut Hill falling to Wilmington (DE), Goldey-Beacom has clinched a spot in the CACC Tournament.  It will be the Lightning's fourth appearance in the last five seasons.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Bloomfield at 2:30 pm, following the women's match at noon between the same schools.
