Goldey-Beacom battles in overtime to top New York Tech 2-1 in an out of conference match up in Wilmington, DE.
Goldey-Beacom and New York Tech both put up a fight in the first half leaving the score 0-0 going into the second half. The Lightning out shot the Bears 7-3 in the first half.
New York Tech struck first in the second half when Maggie Thibault played a through ball to Casey Luongo who fired the ball in the lower left corner.Â
Goldey-Beacom answered with a ball played out wide by Kiera Young (Havre de Grace, Md.) for Jenna Fannon (Newark, Del.) who crossed the ball in to Hanna Clarke (Earleville, Md.). Clarke placed the ball in the lower right corner for her first goal of the season and to tie the game.
New York Teach and Goldey-Beacom remained tied 1-1 at the end of regulation sending it to overtime. The Lightning out shot the Bears 7-3 in the second half.
The Lightning carried their momentum over in overtime when Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, Del.) played a through ball to Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway) who struck the ball in the lower right corner to win the game 2-1 in the first overtime.
Kristoffersen had five shots, Immediato and Young both had three shots each for the Lightning. Noel Talbot (Marriottsville, Md.) had two save for Goldey-Beacom.Â
Lounge had four shots and Nikki Bermudez and Thibaut both had one shot each for the Bears. Nicole Genis had 6 saves for New York Tech.
The Lightning are back in action at home on Saturday October 5, for a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match up against Dominican (NY) at 1pm in Wilmington, DE.
