Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Stuns No. 12 East Stroudsburg, 2-0

Freshman Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) scored late in the first half and senior Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) buried a crucial free kick for Goldey-Beacom, which remained perfect with a 2-0 upset of 12th-ranked East Stroudsburg at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Both teams in the first half used solid defense to minimize control as a total of just seven shots, including just three over the first 37 minutes, were attempted.

But the Lightning finally broke through in the 35th minute.  Senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) sent a corner kick in the box that ensued in a scramble.  Junior Samantha Carey (Marilla, NY) won it and got the ball to Immediato, who buried it to break the ice.

It already is the third goal of the season for the reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Player and Rookie of the Week.

The Lightning's defense again exceled in the second half, withstanding the oppressive heat.  Senior goalkeeper Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) only was called upon to make just one save in that span for GBC.

Goldey-Beacom then was the recipient of a free kick in the 69th minute just outside the 18-yard box.  Greenwood was chosen to do the honor and beat the wall just inside the right post for her first goal of the season and third career.

Greenwood and Immediato had two shots apiece with Lopez making two saves for the Lightning, who are 3-0 for just the second time in school history (2016).

Jules Sicker attempted two shots and Megan Young made four saves for the Warriors (1-1-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday for its CACC opener against Felician as part of a doubleheader with the men's team.  The women's game starts at 1:00 pm and the men go at 3:30 pm.
