Volleyball Dealt Gut-Wrenching 3-2 Loss at Bloomfield

In about as tough a loss as it gets, Goldey-Beacom pushed its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match at Bloomfield to a fifth set before it was handed a painful 3-2 loss (17-25, 26-24, 25-21, 20-25, 21-23) in Bloomfield, NJ.

GBC won a grueling second set to level the match by getting 14 kills and a .229 hitting percentage.  Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) continued her solid freshman campaign by getting seven kills in the set.

The Lightning took the lead in the match with 12 kills in the third set thanks to yet another strong showing from sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ), who pounded eight kills in that span.

Then came the fifth set, in which the Lightning fought off three match points to get things level at 14.  With the winner decided by the next team to have a two-point lead, GBC fought off six more match points to keep extending the contest.  But an attack error on the Bears' 10th match point ended the marathon.

Przywara again played great with 24 kills and 22 digs for her seventh double-double of the season with Boyce getting 20 and 15 for her sixth double-double.

Freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) had 23 assists and 14 digs for her first double-double, senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) recorded 23 and 12 for her fourth this season, sophomore Courtney Bublitz (North East, MD) notched 17 digs and senior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) added 13 for GBC (3-15, 1-8 CACC).

Ashley Stroot pounded 18 kills, Danielle Quintanar added 15 and 23 digs with Laityn Sarna recording 45 assists for the Bears (2-17, 2-6).

Goldey-Beacom next Wednesday is back home to face University of the Sciences, starting at 7:00 pm.
