Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Crammond’s Free Kick Keeps Women’s Soccer in First Place With Victory Over Caldwell

Senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) has her name all over Goldey-Beacom's record book, but she might have scored her biggest goal to date as she tallied in the 73rd minute for her squad's 2-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win over Caldwell at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

The Lightning struck first in the 39th minute with junior Line Kristoffersen (Bergen, Norway) getting her first collegiate goal.  Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) took the initial shot that was saved by goalkeeper Jamie-Lee Banford, but Kristoffersen put home the rebound for a 1-0 lead.

Meghan Grundhauser netted her team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 64th minute to level the match.  She got a through ball from Teaghan Darling and put one home to make it 1-1.

That set up the heroics from Crammond, who was stationed 30 yards from the cage.  She left no doubt by ripping one home for her sixth goal of the season to stop the Lightning's 11-game winless streak against the Cougars (0-10-1).

Crammond is fifth in team history with 24 goals and 63 points.

GBC made it hold as senior goalkeeper Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) stopped shots from Carlyn Salus in the 74th minute and Darling in the 83rd minute.

Lopez again played great by closing with five saves and now is sixth in team history with 100 saves.

Grundhauser and Salus each had five shots with Bamford making three saves for the Cougars.

Goldey-Beacom (9-2, 6-0 CACC) continued its best start both overall and in the conference in school history.  It remains tied for first in the league with Georgian Court (6-0) and Caldwell (6-3, 5-1) drops to third.

Goldey-Beacom and Georgian Court will do battle Tuesday in Pike Creek, starting at 3:00 pm.
