Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls at No. 6 Mercy

Goldey-Beacom ran into one of its strongest opponents of the season in sixth-ranked Mercy and left Dobbs Ferry, NY with a 6-1 loss.

The Lightning knew this was going to be a challenge and were reminded of that in the fifth minute, when Haley Noble scored on a header for a 1-0 Mavericks lead.

But GBC responded three minutes later.  Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) got a pass from junior and reigning Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Weekly Honor Roll member Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE), was sent in on a breakaway and scored her team-leading eighth goal of the year for a 1-1 tie.

It is Speaks' 21st career goal, one off from sixth place in team history.

But the Mavericks had it the rest of the way.  Noble got her second of the match in the 28th minute and Anicia Reyes scored with 48 seconds left in the opening half for a 3-1 halftime score.

Jessica Hoyt, Mackenzie Warner and Kendall Wright all tallied in the first 24 minutes of the second half for the final.

Senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) recorded two saves over 64 minutes for the Lightning (8-2), who last week were ranked ninth in the East Region according to United Soccer Coaches.

Noble ended with five shots and Melissa Torres amassed two saves over 73 minutes for Mercy (6-1).

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday against Caldwell at 1:00 pm, which precedes the men's 3:30 pm match.
