Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Trifecta in the Second Half Lifts Women’s Soccer to 3-2 Win Over Jefferson

Goldey-Beacom overcame a two-goal halftime deficit by scoring three times in the second half to remain unbeaten in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a 3-2 victory over Jefferson at Hockessin Soccer Club in Hockessin, DE.

Down 2-0, the Lightning in the 53rd minute got the break they needed when freshman Jackie Ayers (Rising Sun, MD) was taken down in the box for a penalty kick.  Senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) was called upon from the spot for a third time this season and kept herself perfect for a 2-1 contest and her fifth goal of the season.

Crammond then had a hand in the tying marker.  Once again looked upon to take a corner kick, she put one in the box that bounced and was put home by sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) for the latter's team-leading seventh goal of the year.

GBC then took the lead in the 66th minute.  Speaks put one down the left sideline that junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) got a hold of.  From an almost impossible angle, Fannon lofted one over the goalkeeper and in for her sixth goal of the year.

The Lightning made it hold with a 10-8 shots edge in the second half and senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) needing to make just two saves.  Speaks and Ayers had four shots apiece for the contest with Lopez getting three saves.

Crammond moves into sole possession of fifth place in team history with 23 goals, is tied for fifth with 15 assists and remains fifth with 61 points.  Speaks remains seventh with 20 goals and now is tied for eighth with 47 points.

Dena Noiseux scored in the 12th minute for the Rams (2-4, 2-3 CACC) and Alessandra DiStefano tallied in the 21st minute.  Both closed with three shots and Erin Tinneny made eight saves.

Goldey-Beacom (8-1, 5-0) continues both the best overall and conference start in team history.  It remains one of three undefeated and untied teams in the league along with Caldwell (4-0) and Georgian Court (4-0).

Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is on the road for a big test at eighth-ranked Mercy, starting at 4:00 pm.
