Olivia Florence Becomes Volleyball's Career Assists Leader in Victory at Concordia

The standout career of senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) took another positive turn as she became Goldey-Beacom's career assists leader, helping her unit to a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (18-25, 26-24, 15-25, 25-19, 15-4) at Concordia in Bronxville, NY.

Florence today needed just six assists to break the record and got it in the opening set on a kill from freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ).  As part of her career-high-tying 51 assists, Florence now has 2,196 for her career to top the previous mark of 2,150 held by Danielle Hicks (2005-07).

Florence also had 51 assists September 12, 2015 against Mercy and October 25, 2016 vs. Georgian Court.  This marks the fourth straight match she has had at least 20 assists.

The Lightning needed her play as the squad was down 2-1 in the match and only had a 15-14 lead in the fourth set.  But Goldey-Beacom went on a 10-5 run to level the contest, with sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) getting five kills in that span.

The final set was no contest with GBC amassing nine kills and only two errors over 19 attacks for a .368 hitting percentage.  Przywara could not be stopped by getting six kills in that set for the Lightning, who held the Clippers to just two kills and a -.056 percentage in that time.

What can not be lost among Florence's record-breaking day is the play of Przywara, who pounded a career-best 32 kills to top her previous high of 29 set October 25, 2016 vs. Georgian Court.  In addition to a solid .333 percentage, Przywara also had 13 digs for her fifth double-double of the year and fourth in the last five matches.

Boyce ended with 16 kills and 14 digs, senior Megann Santiago (Levittown, NY) recorded 13 digs with Florence and sophomore Courtney Bublitz (North East, MD) adding 12 each for the Lightning (3-12, 1-5 CACC), who ended with a 57-42 kills advantage for their third straight win against the Clippers.

Nilka Rivera recorded 10 kills and Bianca Ortiz had 18 assists for Concordia (0-8, 0-6), who were forced into 21 errors.

Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday makes the short trip to Newark to face Wilmington for a 7:00 pm contest.
