Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Jenna Fannon’s Extra-Time Goal Lifts Women’s Soccer to 4-3 Triumph at Post

Goldey-Beacom was the benefactor of a decided shots edge, but was pushed to extra time before junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) scored her second of the game 7:01 into the second overtime for a 4-3 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory at Post in Waterbury, CT.

Following a scoreless first half, Goldey-Beacom scored twice in just over three minutes for a 2-0 lead.  Fannon got on the board in the 49th minute off a pass from senior Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) and freshman Jackie Ayers (Rising Sun, MD) found the back of the net in the 52nd minute thanks to a feed from sophomore Taylor Owen (Pittsburgh, PA).

The Eagles countered with two goals of their own for a 2-2 game.  Allison Zollo scored in the 55th minute and Gorgi Van Lienen leveled the match in the 72nd minute.

Greenwood made sure the tie was short lived, burying a penalty kick in the 73rd minute for a 3-2 cushion.  But Post battled back for the second time in the match as it was Van Lienen netting her second off Zollo's pass in the 79th minute.

GBC had a 20-5 shots edge through regulation and ended with a 6-0 cushion in the overtimes, but waited to see if it could change the only score that mattered.  The visitors finally did in the 108th minute as a header from sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) made its way to Fannon, who was on the line to nudge it home for her first brace as a member of the Blue and Gold.

The Lightning (7-1, 4-0 CACC) remain on their best start in team history in a week in which they are ranked ninth in the East Region according to United Soccer Coaches.  Fannon closed with seven shots, Speaks had five and senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) had two saves.

Cheyenne Grim kept the Eagles (1-6-1, 1-3) in the match with 14 saves and Van Lienen recorded three shots.

It was Goldey-Beacom's third overtime win at Post to match the ones in 2010 and 2016.

Goldey-Beacom is home Monday against Jefferson in a rescheduled game at 3:00 pm.
