Jono Hooper Wins Men’s Race, Helping Cross Country End 2nd at the GBC Fall Classic

Senior Jono Hooper (Brisbane, Australia) won the individual title on the men's side and junior Alivia Gillard (Manchester, England) closed fifth in the women's race, ending a solid morning for Goldey-Beacom at its GBC Fall Classic in Wilmington, DE.

Both of the Lightning's men's and women's teams ended their races in second place during the 17th annual affair at Carousel Park.

Hooper ran great in notching his first victory with the Lightning and fourth top-10 finish. He closed the 8,000-meter race in 27:51.4, easily winning by 47 seconds. Senior Victor Rueda-Jimenez (Milford, DE) was fourth in 29:40.0, Chauncey Nichols (New Castle, DE) ended 14th in 31:56.3, fellow sophomore Jason Hyland (Audubon, NJ) closed 15th in 32:52.0 and sophomore Luis Rodriguez (New Castle, DE) finished 27th in 37:12.4.

Felician won the title with 37 points and GBC ended with 61.

Gillard again ran great as she was the Lightning's top finisher for the third time in as many races this year, closing in 23:05.8. Juana Henao (Bogota, Colombia) was eighth in 24:35.1, fellow senior Mary Ann Jones (Frederick, MD) finished 10th in 24:55.1, Cara Jones (Wilmington, DE) ended 13th in 25:57.1 and fellow sophomore Brittany Delgado (Hamilton, NJ) finished 16th in 27:04.7.

Felician took the 5,000-meter women's race with 17 points and GBC was next with 52.

Goldey-Beacom get back on the course next Saturday at the prestigious Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. The men's race is at 1:45 pm and the women compete at 2:30 pm.
