Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Handed First Loss of the Year, 2-0 at New York Tech

Goldey-Beacom looked for a new school-record winning streak, but its season-opening run ended at six with a 2-0 setback at New York Tech in Old Westbury, NY.

Goldey-Beacom (6-1) entered the match coming off its best start in team history and ranked ninth in the East Region according to United Soccer Coaches.  But the squad will have to settle for matching the best winning streak in team annals, set from September 25-October 14, 2002.

The Lightning were breached in the 34th minute for their first deficit all season.  Maggie Thibault lofted a corner kick for the Bears that Jess Hawley headed home for the latter's third goal of the year.

Both teams played the next 50 minutes level before New York Tech iced things in the 84th minute for a 2-0 margin.  Casey Luongo got the ball, crossed right and put one inside the right post for her first goal of the year.

Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) attempted four shots and fellow senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) totaled four saves for the Lightning.

Luongo amassed five shots and Jessie Sabal recorded three saves for the Bears (5-2).

Goldey-Beacom on Saturday travels to Post for a noon match in Waterbury, CT.  The men's game follows at 2:30 pm.
