Women’s Soccer Matches School Record With 4-1 Triumph at Dominican

Goldey-Beacom left no doubt early in the first half and tied the school record with its sixth straight win, a 4-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference triumph over Dominican (NY) in Orangeburg, NY.

A 9-2 shots edge in the first half with three goals and a 14-5 shots lead helped the Lightning (6-0, 3-0 CACC) continue their best start in school history and match the winning streak set from September 25-October 14, 2002.

Junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) gave GBC a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute, scoring inside the top right corner for her third goal of the season.  Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) made it 2-0 at the 29-minute mark, receiving Fannon's pass and scoring in the lower right corner.

Sophie Woods (Manchester, England) then took her turn in the opening half, tallying inside the bottom left corner off a pass from fellow senior Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) for her second goal of the year and a 3-0 cushion.

Speaks then scored again in the 70th minute for a 4-0 lead, her sixth goal of the year and her seventh career brace.  Speaks' 19th career goal unbelievably puts her in sole possession of sixth place in team history.  Her 43 career points have her three outside the school's top 10.

Maria Cabrera scored on a 20-yard shot for the Chargers in the 88th minute for the final.

Speaks closed with four shots, Fannon had three and senior Marta Lopez closed with three saves for the Lightning, who have won four of their last five meetings with the Chargers (0-5-1, 0-2-1).

Megan Geary recorded two shots and Angelica Contreras closed with five saves for the Dominican.

GBC has outscored its opponents 24-4 this year, the widest margin the league, and is the only undefeated team overall in the conference.

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Jefferson in a rematch of last year's CACC quarterfinals.  Game time is 3:00 pm.
