Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Off to Its Best Start Thanks to 3-1 Win at Holy Family

Goldey-Beacom got a pair of goals from freshman Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) and is off to its best start in team history with a 3-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Holy Family in Philadelphia, PA.

Goldey-Beacom only needed to wait until the 20th minute to get on the board, once again relying on a familiar face.  Immediato took a throw-in from senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) and scored from the corner of the 18-yard box to give her a goal in all five games this season.

Immediato then tallied off a feed from Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) in the 36th minute for her first collegiate brace and to give the Lightning a 2-0 halftime lead.

It was part of a first-half onslaught in which GBC notched an 8-1 shots edge en route to a 14-7 total for the match.

Goldey-Beacom made it 3-0 in the 60th minute when Crammond scored on a penalty kick for her 22nd career goal, moving her into a tie with Karin Eriksson (2008-11) for fifth in team history.

The Tigers got one back in the 77th minute as Hannah Derby scored to ruin the shutout.

Speaks ended with five shots, Immediato had three and senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) amassed three saves for the Lightning.

Derby and Alyssa Christiansen had two shots apiece with Brianna Pudlo making seven saves for Holy Family (4-1, 2-1 CACC).

Goldey-Beacom moved to 5-0 (2-0 CACC) for the first time in team history and its five-game winning streak is one shy of the school record set in 2002.  It also is the Lightning's third straight road win over the Tigers.

Goldey-Beacom is in action Saturday at Dominican (NY).  Please note the women's game now will be the 2:30 pm contest after the men go at noon.
