Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Alanna Speaks Keys Women’s Soccer in 5-2 Win Over Daemen

Sophomore Alanna Speaks (Dover, DE) scored twice and added an assist as Goldey-Beacom withstood a strong challenge from Daemen in a 5-2 victory at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

Freshman Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE) once again showed her worth in just her second collegiate game, scoring off Speaks' feed in the eighth minute for a 1-0 GBC lead and her second goal.  Daemen got it back in the 14th minute on Sam Hanes' 15-yard shot off Lindsay Ciaramella's pass.

Junior Samantha Carey (Marilla, NY) then took her turn for the Lightning, taking a pass from sophomore Emily Woolvin (Brierley Hill, England) and putting a 20-yard shot over goalkeeper Katelin White in the 40th minute for a 2-1 cushion.  Speaks then scored with 3:09 left in the half, converting a pass from senior Sophie Greenwood (Burnley, England) for a 3-1 margin.

The Wildcats did not fold as the game was closer than the final score indicated.  Kayleigh Daniels tallied in the 70th minute on a low shot off Celia de Pablo Esteban's feed, making it 3-2.

Then came the pivotal moment in the 78th minute when the Lightning were called for a foul in the box, leading to a penalty kick.  Hanes was called upon for the Wildcats, but senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) made the save to preserve the one-goal margin.

Speaks added insurance with her 15th career goal, tallying off Immediato's pass in the 81st minute, and senior Cliona Crammond (Wicklow, Ireland) scored on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for the final.

Speaks now is one goal outside of cracking the school's career top 10 list.  Crammond now is sixth outright in team history with 19 career goals and she becomes the seventh in the program's annals to reach 50 career points.

Crammond had six shots to help the Lightning (2-0) gain an 18-14 advantage.  Lopez made three saves.

Hanes attempted five shots and White amassed seven saves for the Wildcats (1-1).

The women are 10-1 in Pike Creek since the home pitch was resurfaced with Bermuda grass before last season.  The men's and women's units are a combined 19-1 at home in the same span.

Goldey-Beacom again is home next Wednesday, this time to battle East Stroudsburg at 3:00 pm.
