Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Rolls Past STAC, 4-0, in its Season Opener

Goldey-Beacom scored three times in the second half to put away things and cruised on opening day to a 4-0 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas at Nancy Churchman Sawin Field in Wilmington, DE.

In a first half in which both teams attempted six shots, it was the Lightning who cracked the scoreboard.  Melayna Immediato (Hockessin, DE), playing her first collegiate game, lofted a ball for junior Jenna Fannon (Newark, DE) and the latter tapped it home in the 36th minute.

Immediato then found the goal column in the 59th minute for a 2-0 contest.  She took the ball 30 yards from goal and fired a shot over the outstretched arms of Courtney Dumain and under the crossbar for her first goal.

Senior Sophie Woods (Manchester, England) made it 3-0 in the 76th minute, taking a pass from sophomore Emily Woolvin (Brierley Hill, England) and putting home a 20-yard shot for her seventh career goal.  The Lightning (1-0) only had to wait another 50 seconds for their last goal as sophomore Ali Henriquez (Hoboken, NJ) netted her second career marker off Immediato's pass.

Immediato's four-point game helped the Lightning gain an 8-4 shots edge in the second half and 14-10 overall.  Senior Marta Lopez (Valencia, Spain) overcame the Spartans (0-1) getting 11 corner kicks by recording two saves over 86 minutes.

It was Goldey-Beacom's third straight opening-day win and first overall victory against Saint Thomas Aquinas in three meetings.

Goldey-Beacom continues its season-opening four-game homestand Saturday against Daemen, starting at 1:00 pm.
