Volleyball Drops Two Matches at the Kutztown Classic



Goldey-Beacom ran into a pair of quality opponents at the Kutztown Classic, dropping a 3-1 contest (17-25, 25-22, 21-25, 17-25) to New York Tech and a 3-0 match (25-12, 25-15, 25-10) at Kutztown in Kutztown, PA.
 
Goldey-Beacom in its match with New York Tech got the better of the second set by forcing the latter into 10 errors.  Sophomore Lindsay Przywara (Williamstown, NJ) continued her climb back with three kills in the set and freshman Shayla Boyce (Somerdale, NJ) added two.
 
But the Bears in the fourth set closed the match on a 9-1 run, ending a strong effort by the Lightning.  Kylee Kanealey recorded two kills and an assist in that stretch for NYIT.
 
Przywara had yet another solid match, finishing with 18 kills and nine digs.  Senior Olivia Florence (Glen Allen, VA) totaled 16 assists and 11 digs, junior Makinsie Balderson (Fairfax, VA) notched 16 digs and freshman Autumn Spendlove (Las Vegas, NV) recorded 15 assists for GBC, which pounded 36 kills.
 
Tiffany Verni closed with 10 kills, Jamie Yonker had 24 digs and Karley Brewster dished 19 assists for NYIT (1-1).
 
The Lightning in their second match were confronted with a tough opponent in the Golden Bears. Kutztown ended with a 31-16 kills edge and recorded a .226 hitting percentage.
 
Przywara finished with six kills and eight digs, Florence had 10 assists and Balderson recorded 10 digs for the Lightning (1-2)
 
Holly Owen posted nine kills and 10 digs, Abbey James had 15 assists and Sydney Wilson recorded 13 digs for the Golden Bears (3-0).
 
Balderson had four aces on the week to give her 107 career, moving into eighth place in school history.  Florence had five and is at 105, putting her ninth.
 
Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday is on the road to face Millersville.  Match time is 7:00 pm.
