Game Recap: Baseball |

Rowe’s 13th-Inning Single Helps Baseball Win Program's Longest Game

Senior Jason Rowe (West Hills, CA) helped end the longest game in Goldey-Beacom history, getting an RBI single in the top of the 13th inning in his squad's huge 6-5 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference win at Jefferson in Philadelphia, PA.

Senior Ty Williams (Newark, DE) in the 13th inning lined a leadoff double and took third on a groundout from sophomore Brandon Hanson (Bayonne, NJ).  Two batters later, Rowe had an infield single to shortstop that plated Williams.

Jefferson looked to rally in the last of the frame.  Brandon Quaranta singled with one out and took second on Timothy Brodhag's single.  But senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) got pinch-hitters David Saenz to strike out and Michael Taffe to pop out, ending the 4-hour, 14-minute marathon.

Senior Jay Smith (Zeeland, MI) rapped three hits and belted his fourth homer of the season as part of his three-hit day for the Lightning.  Rowe and senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) each had two hits.

Wauseon, OH junior Jake Trejo (3-4) got the win, striking out four over 7 1/3 solid relief innings and allowing just a run and five hits.  Perez-Duran came on in the 13th to get his first career save, yielding just two hits over an inning for the Lightning

Quaranta (0-1) was tagged with a tough loss, permitting a run and two hits over 3 2/3 frames.  Richard Joa collected three hits for the Rams

GBC (17-26-1, 15-14 CACC) leads Jefferson (16-25, 13-14) by one game for fourth place in the CACC South Division.  Chestnut Hill (15-13) is third.  The top four teams in each of the two divisions advance to the conference tournament.

Game two between the Lightning and Rams will be played Monday at noon in Philadelphia.

Goldey-Beacom is home Saturday for Senior Day against Nyack.  First pitch is at noon.
