Baseball Disappointed in Sweep Against Crosstown Rival Wilmington

On a sunny day at Doyle Field, Baseball got swept by crosstown rival Wilmington University, 5-6 and 1-7.

Game one looked promising for the Lightning owning a 5-1 leading heading into the seventh inning. During that stretch, senior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD) smacked a solo homer over right center field.

Wilmington ran off 5 runs in the seventh inning putting them up 6-5. The Wildcats started their hot inning with Dakota Graham scoring on a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single from Christian Adorno, capped off with a Max Carney sacrifice fly and then two runs crossing the plate due to an error.

The Lightning received solid performances from Keegan Marsden (senior from Stratford, ONT) who went 2-for-4 from the plate and senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) who hit 2-for-4 while batting in two runs.

Zach Rumford (5-2) got the win on the mound for the Wildcats. He pitched eight full innings and struck out 10 batters.

Justin Mears (S, 6) snatched the save for Wilmington.

Trevor Jump (4-3), the freshman from Wilmington, DE, took the loss on the mound for the Lightning. He allowed four hits pitching six and two-thirds innings.

Carrying their momentum into the second game, Wilmington started off scoring four unanswered runs, and brought stellar defense throughout the entire game.

Max Carney (2-for-4, 4 RBIs) and Nick Macey (2-for-4, 2 runs) played sensationally on offense.

Brad Scull (8-1) appeared unstoppable during his win on the mound. He pitched all seven innings while retiring 11 batters and allowing no earned runs.

Mitch Guerrieri (3-4), the freshman from Greentown, PA, collected the loss on the mound.

Goldey-Beacom Baseball returns to the diamond on Saturday, April 21st at home versus Dominican (NY). Starting at noon, the CACC doubleheader will be played in Hockessin, DE at Doyle Field.
