No. 41 Women’s Tennis Posts 8-1 Triumph Over West Chester

No. 41 Goldey-Beacom's women's tennis team ended its regular season in a big way with a convincing 8-1 victory over West Chester at Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington, DE.

GBC (16-2) started things with a 2-1 lead after doubles. Freshmen Lotte Lesscher y Post (Arnhem, Netherlands) and Catarina Zheng (Oporto, Portugal) got an 8-2 triumph over Rylee Power and Shannon Nixon at first doubles with sophomore Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) and freshman Fredrika Regner (Langaryd, Sweden) notching an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles vs. Elaina Rochford and Leandra Roelker.

Silvia Hortelano Pey started singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Sofia Von der Heyde and Regner then got a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at third singles over Nixon. Sophomore Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) was victorious at fourth singles, 6-3, 6-3 over Rochford.

Lesscher y Post battled at No. 1 singles before getting a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Power. Zheng won a test of wills at second singles to get a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 triumph over Roelker. Junior Manuela Cornejo (Quito, Ecuador) ended things at No. 5 singles, rallying for a 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (10-6) victory over Julia Mowrey.

Goldey-Beacom also entered the match ranked first in the East Region. West Chester (10-10) is ranked ninth in the Atlantic Region.

Goldey-Beacom, champions of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference a second straight year, is off to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in school history. It will learn its fate in the bracket during the selection show, which is next Tuesday at 8:30 pm on NCAA.com.
