Baseball Gains Sweep at Post

Goldey-Beacom opened its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Post with a 4-0 victory and then notched a 9-5 triumph in Waterbury, CT for its fifth sweep of the year.

Goldey-Beacom in game one opened the scoring in the third inning when senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON), who reached on a leadoff double, crossed home on an error.  The margin grew to 2-0 in the fourth as a bunt from sophomore Zach Roseman (Wilmington, DE) was mishandled, allowing senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) to score from third base.

Perez-Duran also impacted the third run, lifting a sacrifice fly in the sixth to plate senior Edwin Lee (La Plata, MD).  Roseman added a sacrifice fly of his own in the eighth for a 4-0 cushion.

Wilmington, DE freshman Trevor Jump (4-2) again was spectacular on the mound.  He struck out a career-best and school-record 11 over eight innings, yielding just one hit and three walks.  Jump retired the final seven batters he faced, did not give up a hit until the fourth inning and four times retired the side in order.

Perez-Duran closed with two hits.

Matt Goehrig struck six over six innings for the Eagles, yielding three runs – two earned – and four hits.

Game two saw the Lightning (14-20-1, 12-8 CACC) erupt for four runs in the top of the third for a 6-2 lead.  Junior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) lined an RBI single, Perez-Duran followed with his own run-scoring single and sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) lined a two-run single.

Collins amassed three RBI with Marsden, Abdul and senior Jason Rowe (West Hills, CA) getting two hits apiece.  Carmichaels, PA sophomore Jake Kinsell (1-1) struck out six over five innings, allowing three runs – two earned – and three hits.

Enzo Esposito gave up six runs – five earned – and five hits over 2 2/3 innings with three strikeouts for the Eagles (15-15, 7-7).  Rosario Missitti had three RBI, including a two-run double in the ninth inning.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Wednesday to battle Felician for the teams' second doubleheader in seven days.  First pitch in Rutherford, NJ is at noon.
