No. 36 Women’s Tennis Handed Tough 5-4 Loss at New York Tech

Goldey-Beacom made its way back into the national rankings as the 36th-best team, but could not find the win column in a tough 5-4 loss at New York Tech in Old Westbury, NY.
 
Goldey-Beacom found itself in a 2-1 hole after the doubles session.  Junior Manuela Cornejo (Quito, Ecuador) and sophomore Anna Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) battled it out into a tiebreak at third doubles and notched a 9-8 (7-2) triumph over Antonella Lopez and Ann-Kathrin Zilles.
 
The Lightning took three of the singles matches, but could get no closer.  Freshman Fredrika Regner (Langaryd, Sweden) got a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 4 singles over Kaitlyn Byrnes, Cornejo recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles over Lopez and sophomore Silvia Hortelano Pey (Castelldefels, Spain) rallied for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 singles vs. Zilles.
 
Goldey-Beacom (15-2) also entered the match first in the initial NCAA East Region rankings of the year.  New York Tech (10-6) is ranked fifth in the region.
 
Goldey-Beacom ends the regular season Wednesday at home against West Chester.  First serve is at 3:00 pm.
