Baseball Swept by Felician

Goldey-Beacom faced a couple of tests against Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference South Division-foe Felician, but was handed losses by scores of 12-4 and 11-7 at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Sophomore Justin Hill (Seaford, DE) collected two hits in the opener for Goldey-Beacom, including a two-run double to end with three RBI.  Derwood, MD freshman Jake Heskett (0-3) permitted six runs – one earned – and six hits over four innings.

Jason Aponte notched three hits and five RBI for the Golden Falcons with Rahul Prince getting three RBI.  Rob Naughton (3-4) struck out five over six innings, surrendering four runs and seven hits.

Senior Jay Smith (Zeeland, MI) in game two recorded a pair of hits for GBC.  Senior Jake Trejo (Wauseon, OH), a starting pitcher pressed into hitting after the Lightning gave up the designated hitter, brought everyone to their feet with an RBI triple in the seventh inning for his first extra-base hit.

Lancaster, PA junior Tre Wilson (1-1) permitted seven runs – four earned – and one hit over one-plus innings with a strikeout for the Lightning.

Ron Sessa had a home run, two hits and two RBI with Prince also getting two hits for Felician.  Will Kazura (3-1) struck out three over four innings, yielding four runs and four hits.

Goldey-Beacom (11-19-1, 9-7 CACC) fell out of a second-place tie it shared with Felician (13-19, 11-5), but still is a game up on fourth-place Chestnut Hill (7-7) and 2 1/2 games ahead of fifth-place Jefferson (5-8).  The top four teams in each of the two divisions advance to the conference tournament.

Goldey-Beacom is on the road Friday to battle University of the Sciences.  First pitch at Richie Ashburn Field in Philadelphia is 1:00 pm.
