Game Recap: Baseball |

Great Pitching Lifts Baseball to Doubleheader Sweep of Bloomfield

Goldey-Beacom received solid pitching in both of its contests and made it five victories in its last six games with a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader sweep, 3-2 and 3-0, of Bloomfield at Doyle Field in Hockessin, DE.

Game one saw junior Brandon Abdul (Old Bridge, NJ) strike out five over the first six innings, allowing just two runs – one earned – and two hits over six innings for a no-decision.  Wauseon, OH senior Jake Trejo (2-1) tossed the final three hitless innings for the win, striking out four with no walks.

Down 2-0 entering the last of the fourth, GBC tied it with sophomore Cole Collins (Laurel, DE) lining an RBI double and junior Calvin Clark (Millville, NJ) getting a run-scoring single.  Senior Raul Perez-Duran (Trenton, NJ) lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh for the final.

Yordani Nicasio (1-1) took the loss for the Bears, striking out three and allowing a run and two hits over 2 2/3 frames.

Greentown, PA freshman Mitch Guerrieri (1-3) could not have pitched better in game two, notching the first shutout and first nine-inning complete game since the program's reinstatement.  He struck out seven, yielding just six hits and three walks in facing just five batters above the minimum.

The Lightning scored all of their runs in the third innings.  Perez-Duran had an RBI groundout, Collins lifted a sacrifice fly and senior Jay Smith (Zeeland, MI) followed with a run-scoring single.

Senior Keegan Marsden (Stratford, ON) rapped two hits for the Lightning (7-15-1, 5-3 CACC).

Juan Reina had two hits and Kevin Mojica (0-1) allowed three runs and three hits over four innings for the Bears (5-10-1, 0-4).

Goldey-Beacom is home Tuesday against Chestnut Hill for a noon doubleheader in Hockessin, DE.
