Goldey-Beacom's men's basketball squad has enjoyed a strong 2017-18 season to date and that continues with its participation in championship weekend of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament.

The Lightning (20-9), champions of the CACC South Division for the third time in school history and the first time since 2012, will face Dominican (NY) in the semifinals on Saturday at 5:00 pm.  All games during the weekend will be played on the campus of Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

The second semifinal is between Jefferson and University of the Sciences.  The final is Sunday at 2:30 pm and the champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Tickets are $6 for adults and $3 for students, seniors and children.  Unlike Tuesday's home quarterfinal, Goldey-Beacom students will have to pay admission.  Please also note for each game, there are no advance ticket sales and no complimentary tickets.

One of the driving forces on the team has been junior guard Corey Taite (Sayreville, NJ), who was named the CACC Player of the Year.  All season he has been a vitally important piece to the puzzle whether with his playmaking, scoring or defense.

Taite enters the weekend 62nd in the country with 19.6 points per game, 14th with 64 steals, 21st with 153 free throws, 25th with 2.2 steals per contest, 71st with 1,016 minutes and 84th with 35.0 minutes per game.   He also enters the weekend fourth in school history with 1,223 career points, second with 313 free throws, third with 146 three-pointers, fourth with 266 assists, fifth with 164 steals and fifth with 382 field goals.

Senior forward Dante Thompson (Coram, NY) also has made his presence known in being picked third team all-conference.  He has been one of the squad's most valuable players with his dominating inside presence and his ability to disrupt the opponent's offense.

Thompson enters the weekend 81st in the nation with 7.9 rebounds per game, 87th with 220 rebounds, 29th in the league with 12.3 points per contest and 17th with 81 free throws.

While the individual accomplishments have been many, the team numbers also are there.  The Lightning enter the weekend third in the country with 19.71 forced turnovers per game, fifth with 277 steals, sixth with 9.6 steals per game and sixth with a 4.8 turnover margin.

GBC is 3-2 in the CACC semifinals and is looking for its first trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Goldey-Beacom earlier this season went on an eight-game winning streak earlier this season and has won 11 of its last 12 games.
